David Sylvan is an Affiliate Professor at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.

He was educated at Williams College (BA) and the London School of Economics, and received his PhD at Yale University. He taught at Syracuse University (assistant professor), the University of Minnesota (associate professor), and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (full professor; department chair; director of research), with visiting appointments at Cornell University, Columbia University, and the University of Oxford (Nuffield College).

David Sylvan is the author of several monographs (on United States foreign policy [particularly issues of foreign aid and military intervention], on methodology, and on the sociology of knowledge) and numerous journal articles, on topics ranging from the political economy of cities and organizational routines in global governance and foreign policy, to ways of connecting qualitative to quantitative research and the use of text analysis in policy analysis. He was awarded competitive grants by the MacArthur Foundation, the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Geneva International Academic Network. He has taught a broad range of courses in political science and international relations, as well as collaborated on teaching and writing with economists and specialists on international law. He also has been interviewed frequently in the printed press and electronic media on various current events issues.
