Kidane Kiros is an Associate Professor at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.

He is a Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Development Studies. He served as a Director of the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), Addis Ababa University (AAU), Ethiopia, from March 2014 – June 2019; and was a faculty member of the Institute. Kidane’s career path has mostly been related to teaching, research, educational administration, and humanitarian organizations. Prior to joining the IPSS, he taught courses in various AAU faculties from 2003 to 2014 and served as acting Director of the Institute of Federal Studies (IFS) of AAU from 2007 to 2008, and he was also a Senior Administration and Finance Head for Continuing and Distance Education of the AAU from 2003 to 2007. He served as a member of the Senate of Addis Ababa University from 2014 – 2019.

He also has experience working with humanitarian organizations including the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (as the Head of the Wollo zone branch office); International Federation of Red Cross/Crescent (as member of the Eastern Africa regional working group on food security - WGFS); and the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (as a member of the national working group on Food Security (WGFS). From 1997 – 2002, he served as a teacher at a couple of Secondary high schools, and as an educational expert and educational programs team leader at different levels of educational offices. His research interests are geopolitics, transboundary natural resources disputes, sustainable development, and peace and security.
