ABSTRACT
This article falls under the scope of the recent debate around UN PKO transitions and exit. It considers these transitions as a major turning point for sustainable peace in post-conflict settings. The paper further argues that there is a dearth need to understand how transition and exit strategies are developed and their effectiveness especially in the long run as post conflict societies consolidate the peace. To fill the gap found in the literature, the work reports on the trends and legacies learned from the experiences of Sierra Leone and Liberia. Thus, the study aims to present a critical analysis of these past experiences to examine the strategic factors related to the lasting impacts of PKO operations after transition and withdrawal.
