Objectifs du cours / Course objectives
This course introduces to student the history and development of African societies, with emphasis on the dynamic of the continent within the process of regional integration, and the conflictuality over the national construction from the advent of the colonial period in the 19th century to the present. The course examines also how history has shaped the contemporary political, social, and cultural dimensions of development and environmental challenges today. The course explores furthermore specific topics in security, development and environment. These items will include discussions of Africa’s place in the global economy, the impacts of debt and structural adjustment, the causes of hunger and famine, problems of conservation and environment, and prospects for democratization and reform
